Sara Buchan

Reinvention doesn't begin to describe Free-FM's News Director: She's been a harp stringer, carnival barker, backhoe operator, and sales assistant in an exclusive ladies' wear boutique.

Okay, None of that is true - well, except for the backhoe bit.

Sara grew up on a dairy farm in Eastern Ontario where she milked a lot of cows, baled a lot of hay, harvested a lot of corn, combined a lot of grain and picked a lot of stones. Her family helped, too. A bit.

She started her radio career in Canada's Tomato Capital-Leamington, Ontario (home of Heinz Ketchup) hosting the all-night show, worked her way through a few other stations and then buzzed off to Australia for half a year, where contrary to her mother's specific wishes, she bungee-jumped. She learned to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef.

Back in Canada, Sara went to work on the news side of the biz, eventually winding up in Toronto where she spent ten years covering local sports teams - Leafs, Blue Jays, Argos, Raptors, Rock - and events like the Queen's Plate, Grey Cup and Molson Indy. She went over the wall and escaped to Wild Rose Country. She has an Alberta birth certificate so quit calling her "That bum from Ontario."
