Province To Provide Funding For Rural High Speed Internet Projects
Helping municipalities cover some of the cost of connecting residents to the web with high-speed internet access is at the heart of the province's Final Mile Rural Community Program. Local governments can access support funding for planned high-speed projects. Drew Hiltz with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development says says municipalities are connecting with rate-payers at an increasing rate, making high-speed infrastructure an important priority. "I think we're finding that there's certainly a want out there to transfer knowledge electronically and as we continue to move forward in Alberta in that environment, we're continuing to see enhanced demand with respect to wanting that kind of service." Funding covers costs of things like towers, wireless equipment, fibre optic cable, installation costs and other equipment and tachnology.
