Province Releases Reaction To Property Rights Task Force Meetings

February 22, 2012

Alison Redford's government is promising legislation to be introduced this week will improve property rights in Alberta.

Contained in the legislation is the move to create a property rights advocate who would help land owners navigate the legislation.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Evan Berger says while the task force heard from many who wanted the land bills repealed, there were others who felt a the process had to move forward

"We're blessed with abundant resources.. we're blessed with great agriculture and great recreation opportunities... but cursed with the fact that they all take place on the same landscape.  And we have to balance these things.  So there is many people that saw that in the planning end of things and said we have to continue to move the province forward for the benefit of all of us."

The property rights task force criss-crossed the province to listen to Albertans, including a stop here in Grande Prairie back in early January and heard from an angry crowd of over 200 who wanted the bills scrubbed.
