Johnson Looking To The FutureFebruary 22, 2012Alberta's infrastructure minister, Jeff Johnson, says the province is keeping an eye to the future so infrastructure can keep up with growth the west is seeing. Johnson was speaking at the Growing the North Conference this afternoon. The minister added much of Alberta's budget deficits can be linked to infrastructure spending, but says that doesn't mean taxes need to be raised to deal with the shortfall. Johnson says growing the economy is the best way to bring in more government revenue. "Getting more revnue come in from corporate [and] personal income tax, royalties, those kinds of things. As the economy heats back up, we're going to see more revenue come back into the province." Johnson also alluded to provinicial funding for the planned upgrades to the Aquatera Wastewater Treatment Plant, but turns out he was referring to MSI (Municipal Sustainability Initiative) money that has already been announced for the City and the County. |
