HSAA Workers Picket Out Front Of QEII

February 22, 2012

Members of the Health Science Assocation of Alberta hope their message is loud and clear.

Workers picketed out front of the QEII Hospital, this afternoon, to show how disappointed they are in the latest contract offer from Alberta Health Services.

The deal gives HSAA workers no pay raises for two years and then a 2 percent bump in the third year for cost of living.

Addictions Councillor, Sheri Macmillan, is frustrated by the offer.

"These are the people who take you x-rays and take your blood and do the councilling. These are the people who provide you health care on a daily basis, and they're (AHS) pretty much telling us we're worth zero percent."

Mary Dahr is a Board Member for the Health Sciences Association of Alberta.

She feels the union members aren't looking for much.

"We're looking [to] at least stay up with the cost of living. There were also takeaways with this offer as well, so it's not acceptable."

HSAA workers have been without a contract since March 2011.
