Cargill Boss Sees Good Times Ahead For Agriculture Industry

February 22, 2012

The president of Cargill Limited feels agriculture is a very strong and dynamic sector to be involved in both today and into the future.

Len Penner made the comment during his presentation on the opening day of the 3rd annual Growing the North conference.

"The trend of having solid commodity prices is going to continue to be there for the longer haul, because the world population continues to grow, and the wealth of that population continues to be better.  And when you get those two dynamics, demand for food continues to increase."

But Penner stressed that the Canadian agriculture sector has to remain competitive on the world trade scene, and be ready to face challenges like moving goods from the farm to port with a lacking rail infrastructure in many parts of the country.
