Charges Laid In Monday Pile Up Near Clairmont

February 21, 2012

A 42-year old man from Cleardale faces a careless driving charge in connection with yesterday's crash near Clairmont that sent five  people to hospital.

Amazingly, there were no serious injuries in the crash.

Mounties say vehicles were stopped in both southbound lanes of Highway 2 near Clairmont when a car in the right-hand lane was hit from behind by a logging truck.

That car shot forward into the back of the car in front of it.

The truck then hit a pickup in the left-hand lane, setting off a similar chain-reaction involving another pickup and a van.

A woman and two children in the van, and the drivers of the two cars were all taken to hospital -- police say the injuries were not life-threatening.
