Food For Fines A Hit

February 18, 2012

Grande Prairie Public Library Director, Dawn Silver, says the program allowed people to trade in a food donation to have a fee waived.

"That went, probably the best we've ever had."

Silver says $ 2,708.29 was saved through waiving fines and items coming back to the library.

"We had a lot of people calling in. Everyone just seemed to be so aware of the promotion this year. We had coming in right away and paying off their fine."

Silver is also very proud to have given the Salvation Army food bank $ 1,311 donations.
